Police are investigating after a Black man was struck by a car in a “targeted attack.”
The incident which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 12 April, on Globe Road in Tower Hamlets left the man with injuries which have been confirmed as non-life threatening.
The victim took to social media stating that he was “lucky to be alive” and that the car had attempted to hit him “four times” in an “intentional targeted attack.”
Posts on his Instagram and TikTok added that he spoke to a witness after being hit but that he was “too injured and traumatised to get their details.”
Police say a report was made to them when the victim visited hospital for treatment and that they will be gathering more information from him to investigate the circumstances.
They added that they could not confirm at present whether the incident is being treated as racially motivated.
Currently, no arrests have been made, and they are appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told The Community Reporter:
“Police are investigating a report of a car driving into a man in Globe Road, E2 in the early hours of Sunday, 12 April.
“The report was made after the victim, who was believed to cycling at the time, had visited hospital where his injuries were confirmed as non-life changing.
“While no arrests have been made at this time officers are working at pace to investigate the circumstances around the incident and have arranged a meeting with the victim to gather a statement.
“In the meantime, anyone with information – particularly footage from dash cam or doorbell cameras – is asked to get in touch with the Met via 101, quoting 1857/12APR.”
